I am a female who is in school to become an ordained minister, a field that is dominated by men. I am active in my community to train clergy that a woman’s place in the home is not to be submissive, but to be an equal. In a national survey, 70% of pastors replied that they would not advise a woman to leave a marriage simply because of domestic abuse. THIS IS NOT OKAY. I volunteer at a shelter for women and their children who are on the run for abusers, I help run a summer camp to encourage young women to be relentless in demanding respect in all aspects of their lives. These are smart, brave young women who need to be reminded that they can break out of traditional gender roles.
