Girls in STEM

I know that most people say women in STEM but I think it is important for us to have girls in STEM. Right now I am a 16-year-old female who is in a computer science class with 25 boys and 3 girls. My teacher is a woman and is one of the best people that I know personally. She cares for the girls in her class and wants them all to do better. She is the reason why I am learning to code on my own – besides what we are just doing in class. I know that I am a minority in the fact that I have a computer class to go to and the fact my teacher is a woman. I think one of the easiest ways to get more females into computer science or engineering is by starting young.
Recently my class watched a video of this girl named Debbi Sterling. She is the creator and founder of a company called Goldie Blocks. This company is making it so young girls can start to learn spatial awareness that boys receive when they play with Legos. I think that this is one of the best inventions to help kids start to get interested in engineering. I bought it for my cousin for her birthday she is 5. After playing with it for a full 20 minutes (which is a long time when talking about young kids), she told me she wanted to be an engineer. This is the way we get more diversity in STEM. By having more diversity in STEM, people won’t assume things like ‘only men can be engineers’ or ‘women only wear dresses’. Anyone can be a superhero.
